Hubbs & I saw Defiance over the weekend with a friend. The movie tells the true story of two brothers who take to the woods after the German SS kills their parents. Slowely, more people begin joining them, until they form a whole community trying to survive out in the open. In some respects, it’s  very Robin Hood, as they often take supplies from those traveling in the forest or from nearby homes.

I thought this was a good blend of action (for the men) and romance/drama (for the women). The movie is bittersweet, sad at times, but overall an uplifting message of the human spirit’s capacity for survival in the worst of circumstances. If anything, it should make you think twice the next time your complaining about some minor inconvenience in your day. Because at least your not living in the woods being hunted like animals!

Also, I love Daniel Craig as James Bond, and he is equally good in this movie. The soundtrack is also very haunting and reminds me of Shindler’s List, with all the violins and such. I downloaded it from iTunes and have been listening to it all week.

Yes Man!

So Hubbs & I went to see Yes Man this weekend and I have to say that it was pretty funny. Jim Carrey is one of my favorite actors, although for some reason I often end up not enjoying his movies. Anyways, this one was funny, although not over the top hilarious, a la Ace Ventura, Pet Detective. Danny Masterson is also in this & I always find him to be hilarious as well.

The “inspirational guru” reminds me of the guy they have on PBS sometimes. I wonder if that was intentional or if “gurus” just have a certain look. If it was intentional, it’s a pretty subtle joke. Hubbs had no idea who I was talking about & I’m guessing most people wouldn’t get it. 🙂

Overall, I’m glad we saw this one using our Christmas gift card. Otherwise, it probably would be just as good as a rental. (so save your $$!)

Movies I still want to see: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, 7 Pounds, & Valkyrie
